For Restoring Hope International
Relay Iowa is a non-profit organization benefiting Restoring Hope Village, a group of homes for orphaned children in Welkom, South Africa. Restoring Hope takes children who have been neglected and abused and gives them a home where they are loved.
Bill Raine, our cofounder and race director, volunteered at Restoring Hope in 2009. He came back inspired to help support their extraordinary vision to “break the cycle of sickness and death that bring these children to us, and to meet the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of the children God gives us.” Two weeks volunteering in South Africa lit the spark that created Relay Iowa. According to their website, “Restoring Hope Village operates on faith. We receive small government grants, albeit inconsistently. These grants are not enough to truly provide the care these children need. The bulk of our operations budget comes through private donations. Churches, individuals, clubs, even small children have contributed to God’s work here.”

Thanks to the generosity of the Relay Iowa community over the years, Relay Iowa House and Jill’s House were dedicated during the summer 2016. These buildings are making a real difference in the lives of the children being cared for in Welkom, South Africa.
We run for the kids.
